Alice
Goodwin, played by Sigourney Weaver, is a school nurse who lives on
a farm in rural Wisconsin with her husband Howard. They are good friends
with their neighbor, Theresa Collins (Julianne Moore) whose children
frequently play with Alice's children. One day while Alice wasn't watching,
one of Theresa's children drowns in the Goodwin's pond. Alice is so
devastated that she becomes increasingly depressed and lonely. On top
of all this, one of her students, Robbie Mackessy, accuses Alice of
child molestation. Chloë Sevigny plays Robbie's mother, Carol Mackessy.
Directed by Scott Elliot, the film made its world premiere at the 1999
Toronto Film Festival and was released in December 1999. |
